A region to enjoy
at your own pace.

It is the Argentine base for visiting Parque Nacional Iguazú. The Circuito Superior and Circuito Inferior bring visitors close to the falls along routes with different viewpoints.

Outside the park, the Hito Tres Fronteras marks the meeting of the countries from the Argentine bank. La Aripuca uses a structure of large logs to present aspects of the misiones forest. These visits can take a shorter day and not compete with the time reserved for the waterfalls.

San Ignacio lies farther south, along the Ruta Nacional 12 corridor. The San Ignacio Miní complex preserves the layout of a Jesuit-Guaraní mission. Casa de Horacio Quiroga, Parque Provincial Teyú Cuaré and the central parish add other cultural and natural points to the stay.

The drive to San Ignacio is a road stage of approximately 240 km, which requires its own time. The trip swaps Patagonian cold for a humid forest environment and higher temperatures.

This destination brings together 4 cities: Puerto Iguazú, San Ignacio, Loreto, Santa Ana.

Before you go

Practical information

A little planning leaves more time to enjoy the journey.

When to go

April to September usually has more moderate temperatures for walking. From October to March heat, humidity and rains require breaks and hydration. The flow of the falls varies with the river basin and should not be taken as a promise for any specific month.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

How many days to stay

Four to six days allow allocating two or three for Puerto Iguazú, the road transfer and one or two for San Ignacio. The visit to the national park deserves a dedicated day, with routes chosen according to mobility and access conditions.

Which city to stay in

In Puerto Iguazú, the center makes it easy to reach the bus station, restaurants and services; the areas along Ruta Nacional 12 require more travel. In San Ignacio, the central streets serve those who want to reach the Jesuit complex on foot. The surroundings of Teyú Cuaré favor stays near the forest with organized transport.

Respect the place

Take your trash with you, follow the signs and support local businesses. In natural areas, follow the visiting guidelines.
