About Rosgartenmuseum
The Rosgartenmuseum was founded in 1870 by pharmacist and councilor Ludwig Leiner and is one of the oldest museums in the lake region. It is housed in the Haus zum Rosgarten, mentioned for the first time in 1324, which in the Middle Ages was the guild house for butchers, mercers, pharmacists, potters and leatherworkers.
In 1454 the house was joined to the neighbouring Zum Schwarzen Widder, and the coats of arms of both still decorate the portal. The guild hall on the upper floor is one of the highlights of a visit.
The collection comprises about 50,000 objects related to the history of Constança and Lake Constança: prehistoric finds, altar paintings and medieval wooden sculptures, works by local artists and items connected to the Council.
The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions and a programme of lectures and guided tours.
