About Museum Frieder Burda
The Museum Frieder Burda opened in 2004 to display the collection assembled by publisher and collector Frieder Burda. The building, by American architect Richard Meier, is all white, with large glass walls facing the Lichtentaler Allee park, and is linked by a glass bridge to the Staatliche Kunsthalle, the state art gallery, next door.
The collection includes German Expressionism and 20th-century and contemporary painting, with names such as Picasso, Gerhard Richter, Sigmar Polke and Georg Baselitz. The museum stages temporary exhibitions with works from the collection and loans from other institutions, so what you see changes throughout the year.
Natural light and the view of the park's trees are part of the visit. The museum is small and can be visited unhurriedly in a little over an hour.
