About Kirnitzschtalbahn
The Kirnitzschtalbahn is a single-track tram line opened in 1898 that runs through the valley of the river Kirnitzsch, a tributary of the Elba. The route is about 8 km and links the Kurpark of Bad Schandau to the Lichtenhainer Wasserfall, with nine stops in the middle of the forest, between sandstone cliffs.
More than a ride, the tram is the transport used by people hiking in the Parque Nacional Suíça Saxônica: each stop is a starting point for walks, such as those ascending to the Schrammsteine or to the Kuhstall, a large rock arch near the final station.
In the summer season trams usually run every half hour, daily. From November until the end of March a winter timetable applies, with fewer services. On special dates, such as May 1st, Pentecost and October 3rd, historic cars often operate.
