About Tegelbergbahn
The Tegelbergbahn is a gondola-style cable car that departs from Schwangau, about two kilometers from Hohenschwangau, and ascends to Mount Tegelberg. The cable is just over two kilometers long and overcomes roughly 890 meters of elevation. The cabins, almost all-glass, carry up to 44 people.
On the ascent you can see Neuschwanstein below. From the top the view opens to the Ammergau Alps, Mount Säuling and the lakes of the Füssen plain, such as the Forggensee. There is a restaurant, a short panoramic path around the station, mountain trails and a paragliding takeoff ramp.
Near the lower station are the ruins of a Roman bathhouse from the 2nd century, discovered during the cable car's construction and protected by a shelter. At the foot of the hill there is also a summer toboggan run, which only operates in dry weather.

Practical information
Cidade Turismo reviews its information regularly, but something may have changed. Check with the place before planning your trip.
How much time to set aside
From one and a half to three hours, including the ascent, the views, and a snack up there.
Best time
On a clear day, for the views. The cable car shuts for several weeks for maintenance, such as in late autumn, and does not operate in strong winds. Check whether it's running on the day.
How to get there
The lower station is in Schwangau, about five kilometers from Füssen. Some buses departing from Füssen station and passing through Hohenschwangau continue to the cable car; confirm the line and timetable. By car, there is parking at the base.
Tip
Bring a jacket even in summer: up there, above 1,700 meters, it's much colder than in the valley. If the weather is cloudy at the top, save it for another day.
