About Topographie des Terrors

The Topographie des Terrors is located on the site where, between 1933 and 1945, the headquarters of the Gestapo, the secret police, the SS command and the Reich Main Security Office operated. From there the persecution and extermination across occupied Europe were organized. The buildings were destroyed in the war and later demolished.

The documentation center, a low gray building, houses a permanent exhibition about the institutions of Nazi terror, their leaders and their victims, with photos and documents. The texts are in German and English. The site's managers define it as a space for information and reflection, not as a museum.

Outdoors, an exhibition along the foundations of the cellars of the former headquarters deals with Berlin during Nazism. Beside it, on Niederkirchnerstraße, an original section of about 200 meters of the Berlin Wall remains standing. Entrance is free.

It is a place of memory with a sober tone. It's worth visiting with time and in silence.

It is on Niederkirchnerstraße, between Potsdamer Platz and Checkpoint Charlie. The nearest stations are Potsdamer Platz (S-Bahn and U2), Anhalter Bahnhof (S-Bahn) and Kochstraße (U6).
