About Berliner Fernsehturm

The Berliner Fernsehturm, the television tower, was built by East Germany between 1965 and 1969 and opened in October 1969. At 368 metres high, it is the tallest structure in Germany. The steel sphere near the top can be seen from almost everywhere in the city and has become one of Berlin’s symbols.

A fast elevator takes visitors to the observation deck inside the sphere, just over 200 metres up, with windows all around. From there you can see the Ilha dos Museus, the Berliner Dom, the Reichstag, the Tiergarten and, on clear days, areas well beyond the city. One floor up is the restaurant, which rotates slowly and completes a full turn in about an hour.

When the sun hits the sphere a cross reflection appears, nicknamed by Berliners "the pope’s revenge", since the tower was erected by a government that opposed religion.

Queues can be long. A timed-entry ticket purchased in advance is recommended, as is a reservation for the restaurant.
