About Pizzorno Family Estates

Pizzorno is at km 23 on Ruta 32, in the Canelón Chico region, about 20 km north of Montevidéu. The family has been making wine since 1910 and is now in its fourth generation. Carlos Pizzorno, winemaker and director, gave a push to the fine wines from 1988 and built the underground cellar and tasting room.

The 21 hectares of vineyards surround the winery, on gentle slopes of clay and limestone soil. In addition to Tannat, the estate cultivates Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Malbec, Marselan, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, among others. All wines are made with estate-grown grapes, harvested by hand.

The winery opened to wine tourism in 2014. Tours go through the vineyards, winery and cellar and end with a tasting led by a technician, with four, six or eight wines accompanied by local cheeses. There is also a three-course paired lunch and a cooking experience with meats on a wood-fired parrilla.

Pizzorno also offers combined itineraries with other wineries in the region, with transfers included, which solves the driving issue.
