About Bodegas Carrau

Bodegas Carrau is in Colón, a neighborhood of Montevidéu near the border with Canelones, about 18 km from the city center. It operates in one of the oldest bodegas in the country, built in 1887 and restored by the Carrau family, featuring a colonial house, a tree-lined park and a vineyard.

The family keeps the purchase document for its first vineyard, dated April 2, 1752, in Vilassar de Mar, Catalonia. Since then there have been ten generations devoted to wine. The Carrau family began producing in Uruguay in 1930 and founded Bodegas Carrau in 1976.

The guided tour goes through the old bodega and explains the different production methods. The tasting takes place between the colonial house, the park and the vineyard, and includes a special cellar reserve offered only to visitors. Among the winery's lines are Casa de Varzi, Cepas Nobles, sparkling wines and liqueurs.

Visits are by appointment, Monday to Saturday, in two sessions. Lunches can also be arranged with prior reservation.
