About Cerro del Toro

Cerro del Toro is the second-highest hill in Piriápolis, about 250 meters high, of volcanic origin and covered in native vegetation. It takes its name from the fountain installed on its slope in 1911, at roughly 100 meters elevation.

The Fuente del Toro is a life-size metal bull of about three tons, brought from Paris and assembled on site in parts. The base bears the signature of Isidore Bonheur. Water issues from the bull's mouth and falls into a tank carved into the rock.

From the fountain, a steep trail climbs to the summit in about 30 minutes, with marked stones indicating the way. Up there, the view opens over the town and the bay.

At the foot of the hill, on Avenida 25 de Mayo, is the Fuente de Venus, inspired by a Greek temple, which was part of the same set of fountains conceived by Piria and is now surrounded by green areas.
