About Wengen
Wengen sits on a sunny terrace at 1,274 m, on the east slope of the Lauterbrunnen valley. The village is car-free: only service vehicles and electric taxis run, and access is via the Wengernalpbahn, a cogwheel train that climbs from Lauterbrunnen in about 14 minutes.
The main street brings together wooden chalets, hotels and shops, with views over the valley and the Jungfrau. A cable car to Männlichen departs from the centre, and the same train continues to Kleine Scheidegg, where you change for the Jungfraujoch.
Since 1930, Wengen hosts the Lauberhorn races in January, a World Cup alpine ski event.
In the European summer, trails descend on foot to Lauterbrunnen or follow the slope to Wengernalp and Kleine Scheidegg.
