About Schilthorn
The Schilthorn rises to 2,970 m and is located to the west of the Lauterbrunnen valley. At the top, the Piz Gloria building houses a restaurant that rotates 360 degrees in about 45 minutes. The site was a location for 007 – On Her Majesty's Secret Service, the 1969 film, and an interactive exhibition tells the story of the filming.
The cable car departs from Stechelberg at the valley floor and climbs via Mürren and the Birg station to the summit. The stretch from Stechelberg to Mürren has cabins with a 159.4% incline. Gimmelwald, a village on the route, is also served by the cable car.
At Birg, at 2,677 m, the Thrill Walk is a roughly 200 m metal-and-glass walkway attached to the cliff, featuring a glass-floor section, a rope bridge and a net tunnel to crawl through. Next to it is the Skyline platform overlooking the void.
The cable car operates year-round, with short maintenance pauses in spring and autumn; check operations before you go up. From the summit terrace, on a clear day, you can see the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau.
