About Mürren

Mürren is at 1,638 m, on a terrace at the edge of the western cliff of the Lauterbrunnen valley. There is no public road to the village, and it is car-free. On the opposite side of the valley rise the Eiger, the Mönch and the Jungfrau.

Two routes lead there. From Lauterbrunnen, a cable car climbs in about 4 minutes to Grütschalp, and from there a train runs roughly 4 km along the slope in about 11 minutes to the village. From Stechelberg, at the valley floor, the Schilthorn cable car goes directly up to Mürren along the steeper slope.

Mürren has a skiing history: British tourists arrived in 1911, and the Kandahar Ski Club was founded there in 1924. In January the village hosts the Inferno, an amateur ski race of about 15.8 km created in 1928.

The village is a starting point for the Schilthorn and the Allmendhubel. Trails descend to Gimmelwald, a smaller neighbouring village, and continue along the cliff edge.
