About Giessbachfälle

The Giessbachfälle cascade down the southern slope of the Brienzersee in 14 tiers, dropping about 400 m between forest and rock. In the 19th century the falls attracted travelers, and the Grandhotel Giessbach was built beside them.

From the Giessbach See pier the boat leaves visitors at the foot of the funicular, in operation since 1879, which climbs in minutes to the hotel's terrace overlooking the falls and the lake.

A circular trail of about 20 minutes climbs beside the waterfall and passes behind one of the falls through a rock passage. Part of the path can be wet and slippery, and the route includes a short climb.

The funicular and boats generally operate from April to October. The falls are reachable on foot all year round.
