About Brienzersee

The Brienzersee is about 14 km long and lies between steep mountains, which gives the water its green-blue color from glacier-fed rivers. Passenger boats have sailed it since 1839.

BLS boats depart from a quay on the Aare river next to Interlaken Ost and run to Brienz at the far end. Stops include Bönigen, Iseltwald on a small peninsula on the south shore, Giessbach at the foot of the waterfalls, and Ringgenberg and Oberried on the north shore.

The Lötschberg, a side-wheel steamship built in 1914, usually operates in the European summer. The rest of the fleet consists of motor vessels, some offering breakfast and sunset departures.

The season typically runs from April to early December, with more services from June to September. In winter, from December to March, Brienzersee boats do not run regular services.
