About Ballenberg, Freilichtmuseum der Schweiz

Ballenberg covers 66 hectares of pasture and woodland in Hofstetten bei Brienz. Opened in 1978, it brings together more than 100 houses, barns and workshops that were dismantled across Switzerland and rebuilt there, grouped by region.

The houses can be visited inside, furnished with period furniture, kitchens and tools. Throughout the day craftsmen give demonstrations of traditional trades, and there are gardens and cultivated fields.

About 200 farm animals are spread across the park, and there is a petting area for children and a playground. There are restaurants inside the museum, such as the Alter Bären.

The park has two entrances, Ballenberg West and Ballenberg Ost, connected by a little train included with admission. The museum usually opens from April until early November.
