About Bachalpsee
The Bachalpsee sits on a plateau above Grindelwald at 2,265 m. It is a small lake, about 8 hectares and 15 m deep, divided into two parts by a natural dam; the smaller part lies a few meters below.
The trail starts at the First station and follows alpine pastures with a gentle ascent, taking about an hour. It is wide and waymarked, with no technical sections.
On windless days, the water often reflects the peaks to the south, such as the Schreckhorn and the Wetterhorn. The shore has rocks where you can sit for a snack.
From there, a longer trail climbs to the Faulhorn and continues to the Schynige Platte in about six hours. The trail to the lake is usually snow-free from June to October.
