About Old Trafford
Old Trafford is the stadium of Manchester United, about 3 km southwest of Manchester city centre, in Trafford. Opened in 1910, it was hit by bombing in the Second World War, rebuilt and expanded several times, and has a capacity of around 74,000 people, the largest club stadium in the UK. The nickname Theatre of Dreams was given by former player Bobby Charlton.
The guided tour goes through the stands, the press box, the players' dressing room, the tunnel onto the pitch and the substitutes' bench, with guides telling the history of the club and the stadium. The club museum displays trophies, shirts and objects from different eras.
Outside, the estátua da Trindade Unida honours three former players, and the relógio de Munique on the façade marks the time of the 1958 air crash in which players died; a plaque commemorates the victims. Statues of former managers are placed on the sides of the stadium.
Tours do not run on match days and can be cancelled by events; buy in advance on the club's website.
