About Piscinas naturais do Porto Moniz
Porto Moniz lies at the extreme northwest of Madeira, about 50 km from Funchal, around an hour's drive on the expressway and through tunnels. The village is known for its natural pools.
The pools formed among volcanic lava rocks, which trap seawater renewed by tides and waves. They have been adapted with access points, changing rooms and rest areas.
Atlantic waves crash on the surrounding rocks, while the pool water is calm and clear, with small fish.
There are two areas: a municipal complex with facilities, and more natural pools nearby with no charge. Around the village are fish restaurants and a small aquarium.
