About Funivia Malcesine-Monte Baldo

The Funivia Malcesine-Monte Baldo links the village to the ridge of Monte Baldo, the mountain that runs along the eastern shore of Lago de Garda. Opened in 1962 and completely rebuilt in 2002, it climbs in two sections to the Tratto Spino station, at about 1,760 metres.

The first section goes from Malcesine to the intermediate station of San Michele, overcoming about 460 metres of elevation. The second, longer section rises almost 1,200 metres to the top in cabins that rotate 360 degrees during the journey, so that all passengers can see the lake and the mountain.

At the top there are pastures, trails of various levels, restaurants and paragliding take-off points. Monte Baldo is known for its variety of plants, and many short trails start from the station with a view of the lake below. In winter, depending on snowfall, ski runs operate.

The cable car runs for most of the year, but closes in March and from November until mid-December for maintenance. The summer season usually runs from April to early November, with shorter hours from October.

Practical information

Cidade Turismo reviews its information regularly, but something may have changed. Check with the place before planning your trip.

How much time to set aside

Half a day, including the ascent, a short walk and the descent. At the intermediate station of San Michele you change cabins.

Best time

Early in the morning, when the sky is usually clearer and queues are smaller. In summer, from July to August, the late-morning line can be long. On very windy days, service may be suspended.

How to get there

The departure station is located in the upper part of Malcesine, about a 10-minute walk from the center; there is paid underground parking. Gardesana buses stop nearby.

Tip

Buy your ticket through the official channel to avoid queueing at the ticket office. Bring a jacket, closed shoes and sunscreen: up high the temperature is much lower than at the lakeshore.
