About Villa Cimbrone

Villa Cimbrone occupies the tip of Ravello's rocky promontory, where a castle and a lookout once stood. In 1904 the English banker Ernest William Beckett bought the abandoned property and transformed it, creating a park that blends English and Italian styles with neoclassical and Gothic elements.

The garden features statues, fountains, grottoes, a small temple dedicated to Bacchus and a main avenue, the Viale dell'Immenso, lined with flowers. The avenue ends at the Terrazza dell'Infinito, a terrace with marble busts over the cliff, more than 300 meters above the sea.

From the terrace you can see the Gulf of Salerno, Maiori, Minori and, on clear days, the Cilento coast. The view is Ravello's best known and has appeared in photos and films for over a century.

The main house operates as a hotel, but the gardens are open to the public year-round for a fee.
