About Sentiero degli Dei
The Sentiero degli Dei, the Path of the Gods, links Bomerano, a hamlet of Agerola, to Nocelle, a hamlet of Positano. It's about 7.8 kilometres along a mid-slope, between roughly 400 and 650 metres above sea level, with the whole coast in view: Praiano, Positano, the Li Galli islets and, in the distance, Capri.
For centuries it was the mule track that connected the villages before the coastal road opened. The name comes from a legend: it would be the path the Greek gods used to rescue Ulysses from the sirens that lived on the Li Galli islets.
Done from Bomerano to Nocelle, the route is almost entirely downhill or level, with sections of loose rock and steps. There is a higher, more tiring variant that goes to Montepertuso, but the best-known one is the Nocelle route.
From Nocelle you descend to Positano by a long stairway, or you can take the local bus that goes to the centre. Maintenance is carried out by volunteers and local hiking associations.

Practical information
Cidade Turismo reviews its information regularly, but something may have changed. Check with the place before planning your trip.
How much time to set aside
About 3 to 4 hours from Bomerano to Nocelle, with stops. Plus about half an hour of stairs to Positano if you walk down.
Best time
In spring and autumn, go in the morning. In summer, start early to avoid the heat, as there is little shade. Avoid rainy days or just after rain, when the rocks become slippery. Check that no sections are closed before you go.
How to get there
From Amalfi, take the SITA bus to Agerola, getting off at the Bomerano stop; the trailhead is a few minutes' walk from the square. From Positano there are buses to Amalfi to make the connection.
Tip
Wear shoes with a firm sole, bring water and a hat. Do it in the Bomerano–Nocelle direction, which is easier. At the end, if your legs need a rest, take the bus from Nocelle to Positano instead of the stairs.
