About Corniglia

Corniglia is the middle village of the Cinque Terre and the smallest of them. Unlike the other four, it has no harbor in front of the houses: it sits atop a promontory about 90 meters high, surrounded by terraced vineyards. The name likely derives from the gens Cornelia, the Roman family that owned the land.

From the station there are two ways to reach the center: the Lardarina, a staircase of 33 flights with about 380 steps, or the winding road, via alla Stazione. A park shuttle minibus runs between the station and the village; check the schedules.

The main street, via Fieschi, runs from the church of San Pietro, a 14th-century Gothic church with a rose window, to the Terrazza di Santa Maria, a viewpoint with views over the whole coast. Along the way is Largo Taragio, the square with the oratory of Santa Caterina and the monument to the war dead.

A staircase descends from the square down to Marina di Corniglia, a small rocky cove used by locals for bathing. Corniglia has no boat stop.
