About Casa de Campo

Casa de Campo began with Felipe II, who, when he moved the court to Madri, created a hunting estate linked to the palace. For centuries it was crown land. In 1931, with the Second Republic, the State handed the park over to the people of Madri, and since then it has been open to the public.

It covers more than 1,500 hectares, five times the area of New York's Central Park. The terrain is woodland, with trails, a botanical path and traces of the Civil War, when the park formed a front line. In 2010 it received protection as a Historic Site.

The lake, of Renaissance origin, has a pier with rowboats and restaurants around it. Inside the park are also the Parque de Atracciones and the Zoo Aquarium de Madri.
