About Museo Lara
Museo Lara occupies the former townhouse of the Counts of la Conquista de las Islas Batanes, from the 18th century, at the start of La Ciudad, a few steps from the Puente Nuevo. It is a private museum assembled from the collection gathered by Juan Antonio Lara.
The collection is varied. There are rooms of 18th‑century clocks, 17th‑century weapons, razors and blunderbusses, scientific instruments, archaeology and bullfighting. Another room shows the history of cinema and photography, with old cameras and projectors.
Two separate exhibitions attract attention. The Holy Inquisition exhibit shows figures and instruments of torture used by the tribunal. The witchcraft exhibit gathers objects linked to popular beliefs and fantastic creatures.
The building preserves an 18th‑century wine cellar in the basement. It's a good option for rainy days or for the hottest hours of summer, between the Puente Nuevo and the Casa del Rey Moro.
