About Puerto Banús

Puerto Banús is in the Nueva Andalucía neighborhood, about 10 km by road west of Marbella center. It is named after José Banús, a real estate developer who promoted the complex. The opening took place in May 1970, with a party that brought together members of European royalty and film personalities.

The architect Noldi Schreck convinced Banús not to build tall towers. The project followed the model of an Andalusian village by the port, with low white buildings, tiled roofs and narrow streets. The young architect Marcos Sainz also took part in the urban design.

The marina has 915 berths for vessels up to 50 metres. Large yachts usually moor at the quay, attracting onlookers. Around it there are hundreds of businesses: international brand shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs, and a shopping centre right behind the marina.

Next to the marina is the Playa de Puerto Banús, which has a blue flag. By day, the stroll is about looking at the boats and the shop windows. At night, the area of bars and restaurants concentrates the activity, especially from June to September.

Practical information

Cidade Turismo reviews its information regularly, but something may have changed. Check with the place before planning your trip.

How much time to set aside

1h30 to 2 hours to stroll the quay, see the boats and the shops. Allow more time if you have dinner or stay for the evening.

Best time

Late afternoon is a good time to see the marina in low light and follow it with dinner. From June to September activity is higher and the bars fill up at night. In the European winter, from December to February, the marina is quieter.

How to get there

It is about 10 km by road from Marbella centre. There are city buses from the centre to the Puerto Banús stops, taxis, or a walk along the Paseo Marítimo of about 1h30. By car there are paid parking areas next to the marina.

Tip

The restaurants facing the quay are usually more expensive than those on the side streets: check the menu before sitting down. If you go by car in high season, arrive early because spaces fill up. Keep an eye on your belongings in crowded places at night.
