About Santuario de la Naturaleza Campo Dunar de la Punta de Concón
The Concón dunes sit on a marine terrace about 30 meters above the sea, beside the coastal road between Reñaca and Concón. They were declared a Nature Sanctuary in 1993 for their scenic and scientific value.
The sand, formed thousands of years ago and shaped by the wind, creates tall mounds and smooth slopes that descend toward the ocean. Coastal shrub grows on the edges, and seabirds, sea lions and Humboldt penguins live on the coast. Shell remains left by ancient peoples have archaeological value.
From the top of the dunes you can see the coast as far as Reñaca and Viña del Mar, and the sunset draws visitors at the end of the day. Sandboarding is common on the open slopes.
The dune field has shared space with buildings over the decades, and the protected area is partly fenced. Staying only on trails and allowed zones helps conserve the sand and vegetation.
