About Reloj de Flores
The Reloj de Flores is one of Viña del Mar's postcards. The dial is a sloped flower bed planted with flowers and foliage that form the numbers, and the hands turn above it, driven by machinery installed beneath the garden.
The city received the clock on the occasion of the 1962 World Cup, when Viña was one of the tournament venues. Since then, the bed's design has been remade periodically by the municipal gardeners, using seasonal seedlings.
The clock sits at the foot of Cerro Castillo, on Avenida España, on the route between Valparaíso and Viña's center. A few steps away is Playa Caleta Abarca, a small sandy cove, and the waterfront continues from there toward the Castillo Wulff.
The spot is a quick stop for those arriving by the coastal road, and there are always people waiting their turn to take photos in front of the flowers.
