About Museo de Bellas Artes Palacio Vergara

The Palacio Vergara was built in 1910 by the Vergara family, on the site of a mansion that was destroyed by the 1906 earthquake. The Venetian-inspired façade, with arches and ornate windows, dominates the entrance to the Quinta Vergara.

Since the city council bought the property in 1941, the building has housed the Museo de Bellas Artes de Viña del Mar. The 15 rooms display painting from the 16th-century Venetian school, Spanish and Italian works from the 17th century, Impressionist canvases by Joaquín Sorolla and a collection of Chilean painting.

The earthquake that struck central-southern Chile damaged the palace, which underwent a complete restoration of internal and external ornamentation, the skylight, climate control and the works in the collection. The interior preserves staircases, halls and decorated ceilings from the residence.

Temporary exhibitions occupy some rooms and bring prints, photography and contemporary art.
