About Castillo Wulff
The Castillo Wulff rises on the rocks along Avenida Marina, between the mouth of the estero Marga Marga and Caleta Abarca. It was built between 1905 and 1906 for Gustavo Wulff, a businessman of German origin, in a style mixing German and French references.
The building underwent renovations: the architect Alberto Cruz Montt altered it, and in 1920 it gained a circular tower connected to the main body by a bridge with a medieval feel. In 1946 two of the three original towers were removed. In 1995 the castle was declared a national historic monument.
The property belongs to the Viña del Mar municipality and houses the heritage unit and temporary exhibition rooms, with themes of art and the city's history.
From the bridge and the windows, the sea hits the rocks just below. Around it, the waterfront has other early-20th-century mansions, like Castillo Brunet and Castillo Ross.
