About Museo R.P. Gustavo Le Paige
The museum is named after the Belgian Jesuit priest Gustavo Le Paige, who arrived in San Pedro in 1955 and spent the rest of his life researching and collecting archaeological pieces from the region. Two years later he opened the first exhibition in the parish house, which gave rise to the museum affiliated with the Universidad Católica del Norte.
The old exhibition building was closed and dismantled, and part of the collection began to be shown in a public archaeological repository, the Depósito Arqueológico Museable, within the university's research institute.
The space has routes for wheelchairs, a guide handrail for blind visitors with replicas of pieces made with 3D printing, and audio guides in each module accessed by QR code. The pieces display ceramics, textiles, baskets and objects of the Atacameño peoples over thousands of years.
The visit helps to understand what you later see at Tulor and the Pukará de Quitor.
