About St. Pauli-Landungsbrücken
The Landungsbrücken are the large floating pontoon piers of Hamburg's port, in the St. Pauli district. They were built in the early 20th century for passenger ships on the lower Elbe and were partly rebuilt in the 1950s after wartime damage. The stone building, with its green domes and the clock and tide-level tower (Pegelturm), is one of the city's landmarks.
Harbour tours (Hafenrundfahrt) depart from here and show containers, cranes, dry docks and shipyards on the other side of the river. Larger boats follow the main channel; smaller boats can enter the Speicherstadt canals when the tide allows. HADAG ferries also depart from here and are part of the public transport network, using the same ticket as the subway.
Along the quay are two museum ships: the three-masted sailing ship Rickmer Rickmers, berthed on the east side, and a little further on, the cargo ship Cap San Diego, which still sails on special occasions. On the west side is the entrance to the old tunnel under the Elbe.
St. Pauli is the port district and home to the football club of the same name, with the Millerntor stadium a few blocks away. From the pier a promenade continues east to Baumwall, the Speicherstadt and the Elbphilharmonie.
