How to get there
The SP-050 links Monteiro Lobato to São José dos Campos and to the Santo Antônio do Pinhal corridor. The Sítio do Picapau Amarelo has a turnoff on Estrada do Livro, heading toward Caçapava.
How many days
Set aside a day for the combined visit to the sítio and the walk through the center. A second stage accommodates rural transfers at a relaxed pace.
When to go
From June to August it usually rains less in the Mantiqueira, and temperatures drop on the slopes. December to March tends to concentrate more rainfall; check the conditions of rural access to the sítio.
The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.
Do you need a car?
The Matriz and the square can be seen on foot in the center. The manor house of Fazenda Buquira is outside the town and requires a car or prearranged transport.
