Itaipulândia is 74 km from Foz do Iguaçu, about an hour and ten minutes on the BR-277 and PR-497, passing through São Miguel do Iguaçu. From Curitiba, it is 630 km. There are only a few direct buses a day from Foz. The nearest airport is Foz do Iguaçu, 79 km away.

How many days

One day for Balneário Jacutinga and the monument. Two, if you include Itaipuland, a thermal water park open Friday to Sunday.

When to go

The season at Balneário Jacutinga (lakeside beach) starts early, in November, and runs through the summer. On October 12, the patron saint's day, the Monumento de Nossa Senhora Aparecida receives thousands of pilgrims. The town's anniversary is in November.

Do you need a car?

Yes. Buses from Foz are few, and getting around between the lakeside beach, the monument and Itaipuland is easier by car.

Is Itaipuland open on weekdays?

The water park is open Friday to Sunday. On holidays and special dates, check the schedule on the park's website.

Are there piranhas in the lake?

Piranhas and stingrays have been recorded in Lago de Itaipu. That is why the swimming area at Balneário Jacutinga is enclosed with a net. Only go in the water there, with lifeguards.

When is the pilgrimage?

On October 12. Many pilgrims walk along the PR-497 to the monument, and the town fills up.
