- Vila de Igatu A district that was home to about 9,000 people at the height of diamond mining, in the 19th century, and today has a few hundred residents. Its stone houses and ruins, built without mortar, earned it the nickname "Machu Picchu of Bahia."
- Rampa do Caim A viewpoint in Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina overlooking the Paraguaçu River valley, where it meets the Pati River. Access is by a trail of about 7.5 km from the village of Igatu.
- Cachoeira do Ramalho A waterfall of about 90 meters in Parque Nacional da Chapada Diamantina, reached by a trail of roughly two hours through the Baiano River canyon. The path passes traces of old mining and Poço do Fervedor, and the volume drops in the dry season.
- Vale do Pati Considered one of the most beautiful treks in Brazil, it crosses the valley in three to five days, with nights in local residents' homes. The scenery alternates between cliffs, rivers and viewpoints.
When to go
From April to October, in the dry season, the trails are safer, but the Ramalho waterfall loses volume during this period. From November to March it rains more. The traditional São João festival in June has celebrations in town and in Igatu.
How many days to stay
Two days: one for Cachoeira do Ramalho and Igatu, another for Rampa do Caim. The Vale do Pati trek, which can start here, takes three to five days on its own.
