The Xingó reservoir links landscapes and routes on both banks of the São Francisco. Between the cliffs, boat tours depart from dedicated access points in the Olho d'Água do Casado and Canindé de São Francisco areas. On land, Piranhas brings together the historic center, the Museu do Sertão and the village of Entremontes; Delmiro Gouveia adds the industrial memory of the old Pedra. The Museu de Arqueologia de Xingó displays traces of human occupation in the valley. In Poço Redondo, the Grota do Angico is part of a different itinerary, combining boat and hike connected to the history of the cangaço. Choose your bases and arrange each boarding before planning transfers between Alagoas and Sergipe.

This destination brings together 5 cities: Delmiro Gouveia, Olho d'Água do Casado, Piranhas, Canindé de São Francisco, Poço Redondo.

Before you go

Practical information

A little planning leaves more time to enjoy the journey.

When to go

June and July are usually less hot for hiking. From March to July it tends to rain more than from September to December. From October to March the heat calls for breaks in outdoor areas. From December to February summer demand usually increases at the departures. Coordinate navigation and the trail with the operators.

The seasons shown are the most usual ones; nature doesn't always follow the calendar.

How many days to stay

Three to five days allow for one stage focused on the reservoir, another on the history of Piranhas, and a separate outing to the Angico. Add time for Entremontes and the Museu de Arqueologia de Xingó.

Which city to stay in

Piranhas is a base for the historic complex and the tours departing from the Alagoas bank. Canindé de São Francisco brings accommodation closer to the archaeological museum and the Sergipe access points. Compare the route to the pier and the desired schedule before choosing between the two banks.

Respect the place

Take your trash with you, follow the signs and support local businesses. In natural areas, follow the visiting guidelines.

Administrative centers and some cultural facilities are accessible by road. The river tour through the cliffs and the boat trip to the Angico require a boat and their own organization.

What should I confirm before choosing the tour?
