About Museu de Arqueologia de Xingó
The Museu de Arqueologia de Xingó, known as MAX, is located in Canindé de São Francisco, near the access to the hydroelectric plant. Its collection preserves remains recovered in research carried out before the reservoir was formed and presents aspects of ancient human presence in the São Francisco valley.
The exhibition gathers stone and ceramic materials, faunal records and burials studied by archaeology. The visit adds an interpretive layer to the river landscape by explaining the peoples who occupied the territory and the work of identifying, rescuing and preserving those remains.
