Itarema is about 190 km from Fortaleza, via the CE-085. There are Guanabara buses from Fortaleza. Ilha do Guajiru is about 7 km from downtown, and Jericoacoara Airport, in Cruz, is about 55 km from it.

How many days

One day, for the Almofala church, the beach and Guajiru. Travelers who come for kitesurfing stay several days at Guajiru.

When to go

From July to January, with strong wind and little rain, the best time for kitesurfing at Guajiru. The rains are concentrated in the first half of the year. The Guajiru lagoon forms at high tide.

Do you need a car?

Yes. Almofala is 12 km from downtown, and Guajiru about 7 km. There is no regular transportation between the beaches.

Why is the Almofala church famous?

It was built in the early 18th century, was buried by the dunes from 1897 and reappeared in the 1940s. It is protected by Iphan (the national heritage institute).

Is Guajiru good for learning to kitesurf?

Yes. At high tide a shallow lagoon forms, used by beginners and pros alike. There are pousadas geared to the sport.

Is there a bus to Itarema?

Yes, Guanabara buses from Fortaleza. From there to the beaches, you need a car or transportation from your pousada.
