About Praia da Graciosa
Praia da Graciosa is the best-known urban beach in Palmas. It is on the shore of the lake formed by the Luiz Eduardo Magalhães hydroelectric dam on the Rio Tocantins, within the city limits. The water is fresh and calm, and the waterfront is considered one of the city's landmarks.
The stretch of sand is about 520 meters long. Along it there are bars, restaurants, sports courts, restrooms, a playground, a bike path and a walking track. A four-sided obelisk, with artworks representing elements of nature, marks the center of the waterfront. There is also a pier and a marina, where boats leave for trips on the lake.
The big draw is the sunset. The sun sets over the lake, with the Ponte Fernando Henrique Cardoso (bridge) in the background, and the late afternoon brings together locals, couples and families. Many people take photos, walk or ride bikes along the waterfront.
In the water, you can swim, kayak or canoe and go stand-up paddleboarding. The atmosphere is relaxed and family-friendly, good if you want to rest close to downtown. The waterfront has parking and accessibility ramps. The beach also hosts events and is the center of the Palmas Temporada de Praia (beach season), in the middle of the year.
