About Cachoeira da Roncadeira
Cachoeira da Roncadeira is the tallest waterfall in the district of Taquaruçu, the hilly area of Palmas. The water plunges from a rock wall about 70 meters high, surrounded by native forest.
The waterfall is on private property, near the small center of Taquaruçu. From the entrance, a trail of about 1.5 km crosses the forest to the falls. The start has a staircase with long steps that is a bit hard on the knees; after that the path levels out.
Below the falls there is a shallow grotto and a natural pool of cold water, good for swimming. The rock face is also used for rappelling, which you can book right at the entrance.
The outing takes moderate effort and suits people comfortable on dirt trails and stairs. It is not recommended for people with limited mobility. It is one of the most visited waterfalls in Taquaruçu.

Best time
In the dry season, from May to September, when the trail is firm and the water is cleaner; go in the morning on a weekday to find the waterfall less crowded.
How to get there
It is in the district of Taquaruçu, about 30 km from downtown Palmas, reached by a paved road to the entrance, right by the road. It is best to go by car or with a tour agency, because buses to Taquaruçu are infrequent. From the entrance, you continue on foot along the trail.
