About Praia do Pesqueiro

Praia do Pesqueiro is the best-known beach in Soure, on Marajó Island, and the most popular with visitors. It is outside the urban area, next to the Vila do Pesqueiro, a traditional fishing community. It is also the beach with the most tourist facilities in town.

The stretch of sand is wide and fine, with coconut palms behind it. The water is warm and calm, a mix of river and sea: Marajó lies where the waters of the Amazon mouth meet the Atlantic, so the water is fresh but can taste slightly salty.

The tide changes the landscape a lot. At ebb tide, sandbars appear and sometimes you have to walk quite a way to reach the water. At flood tide, the beach gets narrower. Ask in town for the tide times before you go.

On the sand there are kiosks and restaurants with typical dishes from Pará, such as fried fish, crab and filé marajoara, made with buffalo meat and cheese. There are also buffalo rides. At the end of the day, many people stay to watch the sunset. It is a relaxed beach, good for families and easy to reach.
