Things to do in Governador Celso Ramos
- Fortaleza de Santa Cruz de Anhatomirim Designed by Brigadier José da Silva Paes and built from 1739 on Ilha de Anhatomirim, it was listed as national heritage in 1938. Restored by UFSC in partnership with Iphan, it's open to visitors and reached on boat trips.
- Praia de Palmas The largest beach in the municipality, almost 3 km long, it has the main concentration of services on the local coast. The southern end, sheltered by a rocky headland, has calm water and is popular for kayaking and banana boat rides.
- Praia Grande With about 1 km of white sand surrounded by vegetation, it has held the international Blue Flag certification since the 2016/2017 season. It has kiosks, restrooms and showers and is also popular with surfers.
- Baía dos Golfinhos Also called Baía de São Miguel, it's home to a population of 60 to 80 Guiana dolphins, which can be seen year-round. The best viewing spot is near the Fortaleza de Anhatomirim, reached on boat trips.
When to go
December to March for beaches. Guiana dolphins live in the bay year-round, so the boat trip is worthwhile any time the weather is good. Avoid Mondays, when the fort is closed. The Festa de São Pedro, in Canto dos Ganchos, is the town's traditional festival.
How many days to stay
One day: half for the boat to the Fortaleza de Anhatomirim and the Baía dos Golfinhos (Dolphin Bay), half for the beaches. In summer, if you just want beach time, you can stay longer.
