Approximate road distances. Check flights and bus schedules before you travel.

How many days

One day: half for the boat to the Fortaleza de Anhatomirim and the Baía dos Golfinhos (Dolphin Bay), half for the beaches. In summer, if you just want beach time, you can stay longer.

When to go

December to March for beaches. Guiana dolphins live in the bay year-round, so the boat trip is worthwhile any time the weather is good. Avoid Mondays, when the fort is closed. The Festa de São Pedro, in Canto dos Ganchos, is the town's traditional festival.

Do you need a car?

Yes. The beaches are spread along the SC-410, and buses don't connect them well. The Fortaleza de Anhatomirim can only be reached by boat.

  4. Late afternoon
