Laguna – SC Destination Southern Charms
How to get there
The BR-101 provides access to Laguna's urban area from the north. Visitors arriving by plane can arrange transfers from Jaguaruna or Florianópolis. The Farol de Santa Marta and Itapirubá Sul are in different parts of the area and require their own travel arrangements; check the municipal signed access before heading out.
How many days
Two or three days are suggested to split the visit between the Centro Histórico and the coast. Add extra time to look for land-based viewing points during the season, but don't plan the trip around a guaranteed sighting.
When to go
In winter and spring, southern right whales can appear in the coves. Sightings vary and depend on the animals; wind, rain and visibility also affect observation. Museums and the urban heritage allow you to experience Laguna at other times of the year. In summer, book transfers along the beaches in advance.
Do you need a car?
The historic core can be explored on foot. To link the center, Itapirubá Sul and the Farol de Santa Marta, a car or hired transport makes organization easier; visits to the lighthouse depend on the access conditions published by the administration.

Frequently asked questions
Was the Museu Casa de Anita the heroine's residence?
The house is associated with the moment Anita dressed for her first wedding. She lived with her husband at a different address; the exhibition should not be interpreted as a house where she actually lived.
Can you visit the Farol de Santa Marta without booking?
Visits to the facility depend on booking and on the access conditions published by the naval administration. Do not assume entry to the tower upon arrival.
Which part of Itapirubá belongs to Laguna?
Itapirubá Sul is in the municipality of Laguna. The northern portion belongs to Imbituba, so the arrival point and the beach you choose should be identified before traveling.
Where are the museums of Laguna located?
The Museu Histórico Anita Garibaldi and the Museu Casa de Anita are located in the Centro Histórico. They are separate institutions with their own exhibitions and buildings.
Does land-based watching guarantee finding whales in Laguna?
There is no guarantee. In winter and spring, seek recent information about the animals and assess sea and visibility conditions; binoculars help observation from land.
