About Praia de Leste
Praia de Leste (beach) is the most built-up beach area of Pontal do Paraná, on the Paraná coast. It is where the PR-407, the road from Curitiba, reaches the coast, so it is usually the town's gateway.
The waterfront has a promenade, and shops are concentrated on the streets near the beach. Between the avenue and the sand is a strip of restinga (coastal scrub), crossed by paths that lead to the sea.
The beach is light-colored, long and flat, good for walking. The sea is usually calmer than at other beaches on the Paraná coast, but it changes from day to day. On clear days, the Serra do Mar appears in the background.
It is a beach for families and vacationers, very busy in the summer season. Offshore, in the open sea, is the Parque Nacional Marinho das Ilhas dos Currais (marine national park), visited on boat trips.

How much time to set aside
Half a day is enough to walk the promenade and enjoy the beach; if you are staying in the area, you will probably come back.
Best time
November to April, when the water is more pleasant for swimming; early in the morning the beach is quieter and the light is good for walking.
How to get there
It is in Pontal do Paraná, about 95 km from Curitiba. By car, take the BR-277 and then the PR-407, which leads to Praia de Leste; from Matinhos, use the PR-412. There are bus lines from Curitiba to the coast.
Tip
In season, arrive early: traffic on the PR-407 and crowds on the waterfront increase a lot on summer weekends.
