About Praia do Marceneiro

Praia do Marceneiro (beach) is in Passo de Camaragibe, on the north coast of Alagoas, right next to São Miguel dos Milagres: a small stream separates it from Praia do Riacho, on the Milagres side. It is part of the Rota Ecológica dos Milagres (Ecological Route), a stretch of unspoiled coast and quiet villages.

It is a long beach of light, soft sand, with a continuous coconut grove behind the strip of sand. The sea is calm and clear, protected by reefs, which makes the water good for swimming and for children. In some spots there are reef rocks at the water's edge, so go in carefully.

At low tide, jangadas (rafts) leave the beach for the natural pools that form among the reefs. The rest of the day, the plan is to walk on the sand, swim and rest in the shade of the coconut palms. At the northern end, near the border, is the Capela dos Milagres, a private chapel used for weddings and not open to visitors.

The central stretch has a few beach stalls and beachfront pousadas (guesthouses), and near the beach there is a small village with restaurants and little shops. Beyond it, the beach is very peaceful and almost deserted for much of the year. At certain times of year, sargassum seaweed may wash up on the shore.
