Ouro Branco – MG Destination Historic Towns of Minas Gerais (Estrada Real)
How to get there
MG-129 links the exit from Ouro Branco toward Ouro Preto to the mountain access roads. The route to the viewpoint leaves the highway and continues on a dirt road; plan this visit separately from the Matriz de Santo Antônio at Praça Santa Cruz.
How many days
I suggest two days in Ouro Branco: one for the heritage of the main town and Itatiaia, and another for the mountains. This split prevents turning the viewpoints into a rushed stop between two church visits.
When to go
In Ouro Branco, reserve a clear-sky day for the mountain viewpoints. Wind, rain and fog may require a different plan. For the interior of the Matriz de Santo Antônio, confirm opening: there is a record of visitation restrictions in the consulted register.
Do you need a car?
A vehicle or transfer helps combine Itatiaia and the Serra do Ouro Branco. The final approach to the viewpoint is on a dirt road; assess access conditions before choosing the excursion.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Igreja de Santo Antônio de Itatiaia in the center of Ouro Branco?
It belongs to Itatiaia, a locality of the municipality, and should not be confused with the Matriz de Santo Antônio of the municipal seat. Organize the two visits as separate addresses.
What characterizes the Serra do Ouro Branco?
The park protects rupestrian fields, springs and landscapes of the southernmost part of the Espinhaço. Its viewpoints offer another perspective on the city and the region.
