About Museu Mariano Procópio
The Museu Mariano Procópio brings together architectural heritage, historical collections and an extensive green area in Juiz de Fora. The institution originated from Alfredo Ferreira Lage's collection and was officially inaugurated in 1921. The complex was donated to the municipality in 1936, including the holdings, the buildings and the park. The visit brings the traveler closer to Brazilian art and history, with particular emphasis on the 19th century and on the relations between the owning family and the imperial period. The buildings have different characteristics and should be seen together with the landscape in which they were built. The park allows a walk among trees and paths, while the exhibitions require more time for reading and observation. Check which rooms are open to visitors on the chosen day and follow the circulation and photography guidelines provided by the staff.
