One destination, many paths

The cities on this trip

Start with one city or combine several in your itinerary.

How to get there: Vale Germânico

Aeroporto Salgado Filho, in Porto Alegre, serves as the air entry point. BR-116 structures the axis to São Leopoldo, Novo Hamburgo, Dois Irmãos and Morro Reuter. Ivoti, Santa Maria do Herval and Presidente Lucena require local detours; plan the route using the attraction’s address, not just the town center.

Before you go

Practical information

A little planning leaves more time to enjoy the journey.

When to go

For museums and architecture, choose days based on the opening hours of the cultural spaces. Kerb, Kartoffelfest, Festa Nacional da Lavanda and SchmierFest allow travel focused on a specific interest, according to the municipal calendar. For rural routes and waterfalls, look for stable weather; the lavender bloom needs to be confirmed.

How many days to stay

Plan five days: two for São Leopoldo and Novo Hamburgo, one for Ivoti and Estância Velha, one for Dois Irmãos and Morro Reuter, and another for Santa Maria do Herval and Presidente Lucena. To visit museums at a leisurely pace or attend a festival, remove one city combination from the same day.

Which city to stay in

São Leopoldo or Novo Hamburgo work as the first base for museums in the Vale dos Sinos. A second stay in Ivoti or Dois Irmãos reduces backtracking by concentrating the itinerary on historic houses and inland towns. Compare the location with your chosen visits; being in the same region does not eliminate rural travel.

Respect the place

Take your trash with you, follow the signs and support local businesses. In natural areas, follow the visiting guidelines.
