Nova Petrópolis is 98 km from Porto Alegre, about an hour and a half by car via BR-116. There are buses from the Porto Alegre Bus Station, run by Citral, Caxiense, Planalto and Wendling. The airport with the most flights is Salgado Filho, in Porto Alegre; the one in Caxias do Sul is closer.
How many days
One day covers the town. Nova Petrópolis is usually a stop on the way between Porto Alegre and Gramado.
When to go
The International Folklore Festival takes place in July and is the town's best-known event. Winter is cold. In spring, the gardens and Praça das Flores are in bloom.
Do you need a car?
Not in the center: the Labirinto Verde (hedge maze) is on Praça das Flores, and the Parque Aldeia do Imigrante is in the center. Ninho das Águias is about 8 km away, up in the mountains: go by car.

Is it worth stopping in Nova Petrópolis on the way to Gramado?
Yes. The center, with Praça das Flores and the Labirinto Verde, doesn't take long, and the Aldeia do Imigrante needs about two hours.
When is the Folklore Festival?
In July. It brings together dance and music groups from several countries and states, and the town fills up: book lodging early.
How do I get to Ninho das Águias?
By car. It's about 8 km from the center, with access via BR-116. The viewpoint is also a hang gliding ramp.
